I frequently get asked which gear i use

My Photography Equipment

You asked which equipment I use for my photography — and you’ve come to the right place.

Here you’ll find the complete list of photography gear I rely on both in the field and in the office during post-processing. Every item listed here is something I use frequently and can wholeheartedly recommend. I only work with equipment that I’m fully satisfied with and that has proven itself over years of shooting in demanding environments.

Camera Bodies

Nikon Z8
An almost indestructible, weather-sealed mirrorless camera that handles whatever nature throws at it — rain, snow, sea spray, or freezing winds. The Z8 never lets me down, which is exactly what I need when photographing rugged landscapes. Its files have an exceptional dynamic range, making them a pleasure to work with in post-processing. For me, this is the perfect camera for landscape photography.

Nikon Z7 II
A well-built, weather-sealed mirrorless camera that delivers beautiful 4K video and excellent stills. The smaller file sizes and strong high-ISO performance make it a reliable and capable backup to my main camera bodies.

Lenses

Nikkor Z 14–24 mm f/2.8 S
My reliable workhorse for almost a decade. Outstanding image quality, sharpness, and weather resistance. This ultra-wide-angle lens performs flawlessly day or night thanks to its fast f/2.8 aperture — ideal for seascapes, landscapes, aurora, and Milky Way photography.

Nikkor Z 24–120 mm f/4 S
A versatile focal range for scenes that don’t require an ultra-wide angle. It’s my go-to “always-on” lens for abstract compositions and aerial photography, saving me countless lens changes.

Nikkor Z 70–200 mm f/2.8 VR S
Exceptionally sharp and versatile. I use it for intimate landscapes, abstract nature shots, and portraits. The zoom range offers flexibility without compromising image quality.

Nikkor 200–500 mm f/5.6 E ED VR
A super-telephoto zoom I love to keep in my backpack. Although on the heavier side, it delivers superb stabilization and sharpness — perfect for isolating distant subjects or achieving strong perspective compression in landscape scenes.

Nikkor 85 mm f/1.8 G
A favorite for portraits and spontaneous walks when photography isn’t my main focus. Its smooth bokeh beautifully separates the subject from the background, guiding the viewer’s eye to the main focal point.

Filters

When I want to create a specific mood using long exposures during the day, I rely on MAVEN filters. They produce top-quality filters with neutral color rendition and no loss of sharpness.

On top the magnets are stronger than others i tried. I don´t need to worry about a filter dropping while i search for compositions…

My most used filters are:

  • Solid ND 1.8

  • Circular polarizer

  • Occasionally, a solid ND 3.0 for stronger effects

Tripod

My main workhorse is the Really Right Stuff TVC-33 with a BH55 ballhead attached. This combination just keeps on working and it´s soon going to be 10 years.

Photography Bags

Carrying all this gear comfortably is crucial. My main photography backpacks are the NYA-EVO Fjord 60, which offers excellent protection and organization. I also have a Fstop Gear Tilopa since many years which still works well.

For longer overnight hikes, I use the Osprey Aether 75 L, perfect for balancing photography gear with camping essentials.

Post-Processing Gear

Back in the office, I work on a Mac-based system running Adobe Creative Cloud. I use Lightroom and Photoshop for editing and retouching, which lets me bring out the full potential of every RAW file while keeping color consistent across projects.

For video work, I use DaVinci Resolve and Capcut. Davinci Resolve 20 gives me fine control over color grading and editing, while Capcut works great on the phone to create on the run.
